Panisagar traders hand over fraudster impersonating BSF personnel to police

Date:

Agartala, 1ST June 2026:   A man accused of long-term fraud by posing as a Border Security Force (BSF) employee has been apprehended by local traders and handed over to the police.

Local sources informed that, for nearly two years the accused had been roaming around Panisagar Bazaar, Chamtila, Bilthai, and adjoining areas, introducing himself as a BSF member. Allegations suggest he borrowed money from shops and procured goods under false pretenses, deceiving several traders in the process.

The accused has been identified as Uttam Chakma, a resident of Ujan Machmara in Unakoti district. Traders who had been searching for him for a long time finally detained him on Saturday and took him to Panisagar Police Station.

A formal case has since been registered against him at Panisagar Police Station. Police have initiated an investigation to determine whether others were involved in the fraudulent activities and to uncover further details surrounding the case.
