Agartala: Dec 23. In a significant development, the Legal and Human Rights wing of Pradesh Congress convened a crucial meeting at Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhavan here on Saturday. The gathering was attended by PCC President Asish Kumar Saha, who presided over the induction of three individuals into the Congress party. President Saha personally handed them the party flag, symbolizing their formal inclusion.
During the meeting, President Saha highlighted the growing discontent with the Modi government, characterizing it as a threat to democracy, constitutional values, and accused it of autocratic tendencies. Expressing solidarity with the 146 opposition MPs expelled from Parliament, the meeting served as a platform for lawyers from various bars across the state to voice their protests and concerns.
President Saha announced that such meetings of the Congress Legal and Human Rights wing would now be a monthly affair, held on a consistent day each month at the Congress office. Emphasizing the need for coordination within the Congress party, he believed that these gatherings would play a pivotal role in strengthening the party.
In a notable addition to the Congress ranks, Budhirai Debbarma, a respected TPS officer in the state, joined the party during the meeting. Known for his popularity in tribal areas, his inclusion is expected to boost the Congress’s influence in these regions. Another tribal leader also joined the Congress on the same day, with President Saha foreseeing enhanced empowerment of tribal organizations in the hills and increased momentum in the party’s organizational work.
The meeting saw the presence of notable figures, including MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Gopal Chandra Roy, and others. As Pradesh Congress focuses on reinforcing its Legal and Human Rights wing, these developments signal a strategic move to consolidate support and amplify the party’s voice against perceived democratic challenges.
