Agartala, 6th August 2024:   In the wake of the collapse of the Bangladesh’s Awami League government, stringent security measures have been implemented at the Indo-Bangla border to prevent illegal infiltration through Tripura.

The political turmoil erupted following the quota reform movement, leading to the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday afternoon. Jubilant agitators celebrated their victory, but the aftermath saw the destruction of government property and reported violence against Hindus.

In response to the escalating situation, the Indo-Bangla border has been sealed. The Bharat-Bangla Maitri Bridge usually bustling with thousands of travelers presented a starkly different picture on Tuesday. The area was devoid of its usual crowd, with a barricade of approximately five to seven layers of barbed wire now in place.

BSF jawans are maintaining a vigilant watch over the bridge and its surroundings. The Sabroom police station, led by TSR jawan and the police force is also actively involved in the security operations. “The police will work in tandem with the BSF to prevent any kind of illegal intrusion at the border,” stated Moran Baidya, a senior officer at Sabroom police station.
