Agartala, 6th September 2025:   A five-member delegation from the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee met Chief Minister [Name] today to submit an 11-point memorandum demanding urgent action on a range of socio-political and economic issues, including the immediate clearance of 22% pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for teachers and government employees.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty alleged widespread lawlessness and political violence across the state. He accused ruling party leaders of orchestrating armed rallies in Agartala, attacking opposition offices, media establishments, and even torching vehicles in full view of law enforcement. “Despite such brazen acts, the perpetrators continue to hold press conferences with impunity,” Chakraborty said, referencing a controversial statement made by a senior leader: “This is just the trailer; the full picture is yet to come.”

Chakraborty painted a bleak portrait of Tripura’s current governance, alleging that the drug trade has flourished under political protection and that incidents of sexual violence against women and minors are on the rise. He further claimed that land mafias have gained unchecked influence, contributing to widespread corruption in public infrastructure projects. According to him, the administration is increasingly driven by commissions and kickbacks, while the state leadership continues to renege on its promises to the public.

He further claimed that democratic rights, including voting rights, are being suppressed through intimidation by motorcycle gangs and misuse of police forces. Journalists attempting to report on these issues have allegedly faced threats and violence.

Referring to the recent change in chief ministerial leadership, Chakraborty acknowledged initial public optimism due to the new CM’s prior reputation. “There were signs of improvement,” he said, “but the resurgence of criminal networks and internal party conflicts have plunged the state back into chaos.” He warned that Tripura now stands “on a powder keg,” with daily reports of murders, clashes, and deepening corruption.

The Congress leader urged that police forces be granted full autonomy to operate beyond political affiliations, ensuring impartial enforcement of law and order. He called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of known drug traffickers and sexual offenders, emphasizing the need for swift justice. Additionally, he demanded thorough investigations into the origins of illicit wealth amassed by criminal networks. He also pressed for expedited judicial proceedings against those responsible for acts of violence, including the post-2018 killings, custodial deaths, and the Kumarghat Rath incident.

The 11-point charter submitted by the Tripura Pradesh Congress includes a demand for the immediate disbursement of 22% pending Dearness Allowance (DA) prior to the implementation of the 16th Finance Commission report. It calls for the regularization of all irregular government employees and the urgent filling of vacant posts across various state departments, including education. The party also seeks timely distribution of textbooks to students within 15 days of the academic year’s commencement, along with the prompt scheduling of examinations and publication of results.

Further demands include the provision of subsidized fertilizer to small and medium rubber producers, a 10% subsidy for the construction of smokehouses, and the inclusion of all rubber growers under comprehensive insurance schemes. The Congress has urged the government to ensure procurement of paddy, wheat, and maize within 15 days of harvest completion. Lastly, the charter emphasizes the need for swift repair and revival of defunct irrigation projects across the state to support agricultural productivity.

The Congress delegation urged the Chief Minister to act decisively and restore public trust through transparent governance and justice delivery.
