Agartala, 22nd August 2024: Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha has called for the flood situation in Tripura to be declared a national disaster. During his visit to the refugee camp at Dr. BR Ambedkar School in Joynagar on Thursday, Saha emphasized the urgent need for administrative assistance to the flood victims.
“The state government must declare the flood situation as a national calamity and extend all possible help to the affected people,” Saha stated. He also highlighted the necessity of financial aid for repairing the damaged homes of flood victims.
In a show of solidarity, Pradesh Congress distributed relief materials to the camp residents. Saha mentioned that Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have expressed their concern on social media. “They have been informed about the dire situation through a letter, urging the central leadership to address the crisis,” he added.
Local corporator Janhvi Das Chowdhury, who accompanied Saha reported that over five hundred people have taken shelter in the school. “The administration has ensured food and medical supplies for the refugees. Additionally, we are providing as much support as possible at the party level,” Chowdhury said.
The Congress party continues to press for immediate and comprehensive relief measures to mitigate the impact of the floods on the state’s residents.
