Agartala, 17th December 2024: The Province Youth Congress staged a protest on Tuesday in front of the Province Congress Bhavan, condemning the removal of a historic picture from the Indian Army Headquarters. The picture, which depicted an Indian Army General receiving the victory sign from a Pakistani General, commemorated Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, achieved with the support of the Indian Army.
Since 1971, Bangladesh has celebrated December 16 as Bangladesh Victory Day. The picture had been a longstanding fixture at the Army Headquarters, symbolizing the historic victory. However, the Province Youth Congress alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) removed the picture on Monday in an attempt to erase history.
“This is a shameful act that we strongly condemn,” stated Province Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha. “We demand that the picture be reinstalled at the Army Headquarters. The BJP seems to have drawn a blueprint to erase the country’s history in this manner.”
The protest saw a significant turnout of Youth Congress workers and supporters, all united in their opposition to the removal of the historic picture. The demonstrators called for immediate action to restore the picture and preserve the historical legacy it represents.
