Agartala, 28th November 2025:  Kailashahar witnessed tense moments last night as Congress workers gathered to protest an alleged attack attempt on senior party leaders in Dharmanagar. The demonstration was initially scheduled for 8 pm, but was later suspended following a request from district police officials.

Party sources informed that the protest was planned in response to an incident outside the Dharmanagar Superintendent of Police’s office, where former Pradesh Congress president and sitting MLA Birajit Sinha, along with district Congress president Md Badruzzaman faced hostility from a group of youths.

Police officials reportedly urged Congress leaders to call off the march to avoid further escalation. While the party complied, Congress leaders warned that unless arrests are made in connection with both the attack attempt and the previous night’s arson at the Dharmanagar Congress office, they will launch a statewide agitation.

Earlier in the day, Sinha and Badruzzaman visited the Congress office that had been attacked and set ablaze the previous night. They met with party workers to boost morale and gather details of the incident before proceeding on foot to the SP’s office to lodge a complaint.

Locals allege that as soon as the leaders arrived at the SP’s office, 10–12 youths gathered at the gate, hurling abuses and derogatory remarks at the MLA. Congress workers claimed the youths were intoxicated and affiliated with the ruling BJP. One of them reportedly collapsed after losing control due to excessive drinking.

At a press conference held later at the Kailashahar District Congress office, MLA Birajit Sinha expressed sharp anger over the incident. “An elephant walks through the market, dogs bark endlessly,” he remarked, accusing the attackers of being “goons sheltered by the ruling party.” He further alleged that the BJP has come to be identified with “propaganda, hooliganism, factionalism and commission trade.”

Sinha noted that strict security inside the SP’s office prevented a major clash, but warned that the outcome could have been different had the incident occurred elsewhere.

Congress leadership has made it clear: unless swift investigation and arrests follow both the Dharmanagar office attack and the assault attempt on party leaders, the party will intensify its agitation across the state.
