Agartala, 31st August 2024:   The residents of Ward No. 10 in Agartala Municipal Corporation are voicing their frustration over the lack of development in their area. The local corporator Soma Majumder has come under fire from the residents particularly from the residents of Masjidpara, Indranagar.

A resident expressing the collective anger highlighted that a lane in their area has been in disrepair for an astonishing 32 years. Despite promises from successive governments, both right and left the road remains unfit for traffic. “Votes only bring promises of development, but there is no initiative to fulfill these promises,” the resident lamented.

The situation has been exacerbated by recent floods, which forced many residents to evacuate and seek shelter in local camps, risking their lives in the process. A local woman described the dire condition of their street stating, “The condition of our street is so bad that even movement has become difficult.”

When confronted with these complaints, Corporator Soma Majumder reportedly suggested that residents should lay bricks themselves to make the road passable or that he would use REGA workers to fix it. However, despite these assurances, no action has been taken, and the road’s condition remains unchanged. “The most surprising thing is that Soma Majumder has not even set foot on the road,” the woman added, expressing extreme anger at his inaction.

Locals are now demanding answers and action. They feel betrayed by Corporator Soma Majumder, whom they had elected with high hopes. This incident is part of a broader trend in Agartala, where complaints against corporators are becoming increasingly common. Despite the slogan “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas,” real development remains elusive in many areas, with promises often remaining just words.
