Agartala, 11th July 2024:   An operation was carried out in the Maharajganj market by the Enforcement Team of Sadar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), aiming to control the prices of potato and onion products. This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Food Department and the Legal Metrology Department.

The primary focus of the operation was on first-level sellers of potatoes and onions. According to officials, the primary goal of these raids is to ensure price stability of essential commodities in state markets and to crack down on dishonest traders.

During the raid, officials scrutinized various shops in Maharajganj and found price discrepancies at one establishment. “We have seized the memo book of the shop where inconsistencies were observed,” an official stated. He added, “However, most of the shops are conducting their business properly.”

The officials emphasized that such operations would continue to prevent unethical sales practices. “These efforts are crucial to maintain fair market practices and protect consumers from inflated prices,” they noted.

The operation saw the participation of the headquarters’ Deputy Commissioner of Metrology department along with Food department and sales tax officials, underscoring the significance of this crackdown.
