Agartala, 25th March 2025:   The state government is intensifying efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, with a new hospital block under construction at GB Pant Hospital, set for completion by 2027. This initiative aims to enhance patient accommodation and medical services, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha informed the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Dr. Saha assured that despite the ongoing construction, medical services at GBP Hospital, the state’s premier referral healthcare institution, remain uninterrupted. He highlighted that while patients from across Tripura, including remote areas, initially seek treatment at sub-divisional and district hospitals, complex cases requiring advanced medical procedures are promptly referred to GBP Hospital.

“Our goal is to provide specialized and high-quality medical care. Patients referred to GBP Hospital receive expert treatment from highly skilled doctors and medical staff,” Dr. Saha stated.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the hospital’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, adequate medical personnel, and robust patient management system. However, he acknowledged space constraints in certain departments, which the new hospital block will address. Once completed, specific departments will be relocated to the new facility to optimize patient care.

Dr. Saha also highlighted GBP Hospital’s super specialty services across nine key departments, including Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Nephrology, Plastic Surgery, Gastroenterology, Gastro Surgery, and C.T.V.S. & IR.

In a significant medical milestone, the hospital has conducted two kidney transplants between April 2022 and February 2025. Additionally, sixty open-heart surgeries and twenty-two Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (C.A.B.G.) have been successfully performed in the C.T.V.S. and IR departments. Currently, the super specialty block is staffed with fifteen specialists, comprising eleven permanent doctors and four contractual super specialists.

The construction of the new GBP Hospital block reflects the government’s long-term vision for a more advanced, patient-friendly healthcare system in Tripura.
