Agartala, 12th January 2025: A stolen bike reported from Meghalaya was recovered in Tripura’s Boxnagar region on Friday night. Acting on a secret tip-off, the Kalamchaura police set up a checkpoint at the Veluachara Naka point. They apprehended a youth in possession of the stolen vehicle, confirming it matched the description circulated by Meghalaya police earlier in the week.
The case began when the owner of the bike filed a theft complaint at a local police station in Meghalaya. Following the report, Meghalaya police issued alerts to police stations across the state and neighboring regions, including Tripura.
The youth, arrested with the stolen bike, was identified as a resident of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. During interrogation, he claimed to have been living in Bangalore and visiting Tripura for travel. He also alleged that he rented the bike from Shillong, Meghalaya. However, his statements raised suspicions as he failed to provide credible details about a friend he claimed to have in Tripura.
The inconsistencies in his account prompted further scrutiny. The youth was handed over to Meghalaya police, who arrived at Kalamchaura police station late on Saturday night, along with the recovered bike, for additional investigation.
Police are continuing their investigation to verify the suspect’s claims and ascertain his involvement in the theft. Further updates are awaited.
