Agartala: June 09. The transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury today wrote a letter to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw demanding to increase number of coaches in all the DEMU passenger trains in order to remove the inconvenience faced by the passengers.
In the letter, Minister Chowdhury has expressed his gratitude to the union minister for his incredible efforts and continuous support to improve Railway connectivity in the state as in the recent times, the railway connectivity has improved significantly with the extension of the broad-gauge railway lines and introduction of several Express and Local train services.
“Due to comfortable and cheaper mode of transportation, the number of commuters in rail is rapidly increasing day by day. Presently, 3 DEMU passenger trains are running from Agartala to Sabroom and vice-versa with 8 coaches and 2 numbers of DEMU passenger trains are running from Agartala to Dharmanagar and vice- versa with 9 (nine) coaches. These DEMU trains, with limited number of coaches, are not sufficient to cater the increasing number of passengers and clear the extra rush that causing great hardship to the daily commuters”, the letter reads.
He said that there is a tremendous demand from every nooks and corner of the state for increasing number of coaches in all the DEMU passenger trains running from Agartala to Sabroom and Agartala to Dharmanagar in order to remove the inconvenience faced by the passengers.
“Always there is overcrowding and rush of commuters in all the DEMU passenger trains creating a lot of chaos. In such a situation, the possibilities of any untoward incident cannot be ruled out. The matter has come up during the last assembly session also and many organisations have taken out agitational programmes demanding for increasing number of coaches in DEMU passenger trains. Therefore, I would request you to kindly look into the matter and take appropriate steps from your kind end to increase the number of coaches from 8/9 to 15 or 22 in all 5 (five) DEMU passenger trains presently running in the state of Tripura for the benefit of the peoples of Tripura”, Sushanta demanded.
