Agartala, June 09, 2023: The entire Boxanagar area is in a state of panic following the apprehension of the main mastermind behind an international women trafficking ring. This shocking revelation has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of residents.

According to reports, seven months ago, a 16-year-old minor from Ghania Mara area visited her aunt’s house in Manikyanagar Naljala, where she encountered Ali Akbar, the father of Amena Begum from Mollahmura area in Boxanagar, Sepahijala district. Taking advantage of the situation, Ali Akbar lured the minor girl by promising her a job in a beauty parlour in Chennai with a monthly salary of Rs 15,000. Tragically, the young girl, belonging to a poor and vulnerable family, fell into his trap, unknowingly endangering her life. Within a few days of her arrival in Chennai, she was coerced into illegal activities through the forceful administration of drugs and was cut off from communicating with her family. After three months, she was sold to Bangalore, where she experienced a similar ordeal.

Amena Begum, along with Akter from Sonamura and Liza from Bangladesh, has been involved in the illicit trade of human beings and women trafficking for several years. Assisting them in their operations is Amena’s elder brother, Joydal Hossain, who facilitates the transportation of young girls from Bangladesh to Agartala railway station via Sonamura, Boxanagar, and Putia. He arranges their tickets and ensures their safe arrival at the station, where Amena receives them. Subsequently, they are taken to a rented house and coerced into engaging in unlawful activities. Those who resist this exploitative work are sold to other locations through intermediaries for a substantial sum ranging from four to five lakh rupees.

The courageous minor girl, who endured this ordeal, lodged a complaint against Amena Begum and her brother Joydul Hossain at Kalamchoura police station yesterday evening. The actions of the police in this case are now eagerly awaited. The brave girl has expressed her intention to approach the Human Rights Commission and the Chief Minister regarding this matter. She also revealed that there are still 10 to 15 girls held captive in Chennai and Bangalore, being forced into illegal activities. Consequently, there is a growing demand in the area for the swift arrest and severe punishment of the culprits, as their continued actions pose a threat to the well-being of numerous innocent individuals.
