Agartala, 15th June 2026: A serious shortage of teachers and alleged infrastructure problems have triggered concern among students, guardians and local residents of South Paharpur Vidyajyoti School. Raising questions over the quality of education, the CPIM Dhanpur Zonal Committee submitted a deputation to the school headmaster on Monday, placing a 10-point demand charter for immediate action.
According to the committee, the school is currently functioning with only 12 teachers for around 170 students, creating major difficulties in conducting regular classes. Allegations have surfaced that due to the shortage of teaching staff, multiple classes are being conducted simultaneously in a single classroom, with three different classes reportedly being held in one room at the same time.
The CPIM leaders expressed concern that such conditions could severely affect students’ academic progress and urged the education authorities to take urgent steps to appoint sufficient teachers, including in the primary section.
The deputation also raised allegations regarding the dismantling of old school structures and the cutting down of trees within the school premises. The committee questioned whether the old buildings were demolished following government rules and sought clarification on the use of any funds generated from the process. It also demanded an explanation over the felling of old trees, including teak trees, on the school campus.
The 10-point demands submitted to the headmaster included immediate issuance of school certificates to former students whenever required, introduction of a science stream from the current academic year, construction of a boundary wall to protect school property, and establishment of a scientifically designed kitchen and dining hall.
The committee further demanded arrangements for safe filtered drinking water for students, clarification on the status of the sports complex sanctioned during the 2016-17 financial year, and construction of a hall for cultural activities.
Local residents have stated that if the problems are not addressed soon, students will continue to face difficulties in their education. They appealed to the concerned authorities to intervene and ensure a better academic environment at the school.
