Agartala, 23rd October 2025:   The Department of Animal Resources Development (ARD) of Tripura has issued a public notice banning the transportation of pigs within the state and from outside until further notice. This measure aims to protect pig farmers from economic losses due to recent outbreaks of infectious diseases among pigs.

Under the notification, no pigs can be brought into Tripura without prior approval from the ARD. All consignments arriving via rail or road will be allowed entry only in strict accordance with Rule 96 of the Transportation of Animals Rules, 2001.

“Veterinary officers will inspect the health and vaccination records of pigs before granting transport approval. Transporters must inform the Director of the Department at least 48 hours before the consignment reaches the state’s entry point,” the notice stated.

The advisory also clarifies that pigs intended for commercial purposes will not be allowed entry into the state. Transporters will bear all costs associated with health inspections, and if any pig is found to be infected, the transporter will be responsible for its proper disposal or removal in line with government regulations.

The ARD emphasized that the ban has been implemented to safeguard the state’s livestock sector and ensure public health and safety.
