Agartala, February 24: The Tripura Bar Association (TBA) will hold its elections for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer and executive members on March 23, after a gap of two years. The elections were due in 2022, but were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to TBA Secretary Kaushik Indu, the draft voter list was published on February 9 and the final voter list was published on February 20. The voter list comprises of 1,234 advocates who are eligible to cast their votes.
The nomination papers can be collected from the TBA office from March 4 to March 7 and can be submitted from March 11 to March 13 between 12 noon and 4 pm. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 15 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 19.
The polling will be held on March 23 from 9 am to 1 pm at the TBA premises. The counting of votes will start from 2 pm and the results will be declared on the same day.
Sandip Datta Chowdhury, a senior advocate and former TBA president, has been appointed as the returning officer for the elections. He will be assisted by two assistant returning officers, Prasenjit Chakraborty and Subrata Saha.
The TBA elections are expected to witness a keen contest between the incumbent office-bearers and the challengers. The TBA is the oldest and largest bar association in the state, with a history of more than 100 years.
