Tripura begins ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ with CoF collaboration

Agartala, 1ST June 2026:   The nationwide month-long campaign “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” was formally launched in Tripura on Monday at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Tripura, under ICAR-NEH Tripura Centre, in association with the College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra.

The campaign, initiated by the Union Ministry of Agriculture, will be observed from June 1 to June 30 across the country with the objective of promoting balanced fertilizer use, improving soil health, and encouraging natural farming practices among farmers.

The core agenda of the campaign includes reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers, promoting soil-test-based nutrient management, integrated nutrient management (INM), quality control of agricultural inputs, holistic farmer support, and dissemination of weather-based advisories for sustainable agriculture.

The launching programme was attended by several distinguished guests including Mr. Chsndradoy Rupini, Former MDC and EM, TTADC; Mr. Sukhram Debbarma, eminent tribal leader; Prof. B.K. Singh, Dean In-Charge; and Dr. V.S. Naik from the College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and highlighted the need for scientific nutrient management to maintain soil fertility and enhance farmers’ income while protecting the environment.

Earlier, Dr. Ganesh Das, Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Tripura, formally welcomed the guests and participants. He briefed the gathering about the objectives and significance of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan and appealed to farmers and stakeholders to actively participate in the campaign for ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability in the state.

The programme witnessed participation from scientists, farmers, students, extension officials, and representatives from various agricultural organizations.
