Agartala, 28th October 2025: The Tripura government has approved a series of new initiatives aimed at empowering women, supporting girl children, and uplifting minority communities. The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting held on Monday, informed Cabinet Spokesperson and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury at a press conference on Tuesday.
The cabinet approved the formation of the Tripura Women Entrepreneurs Policy, designed to promote women’s entrepreneurship, especially among those from rural areas and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Under the policy, women can avail loans of up to ₹1 crore with a 35% subsidy. The scheme also extends to beneficiaries under the Lakhpati Didi initiative.
The government also launched the Mukhyamantri Balika Samriddhi Yojana, a new welfare scheme for girl children. Under this scheme, if two baby girls are born in a family under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) category, ₹50,000 will be fixed for each child. The amount can be accessed once the girls turn 18. The scheme is aimed at discouraging child marriage and supporting economically weaker families. Eligible births must take place in government hospitals.
In another key decision, the cabinet approved the establishment of a new Women’s College at Nalchar in the Sepahijala District, to be set up by the Higher Education Department.
The cabinet also sanctioned the recruitment of 104 Managerial posts under the Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited (TSECL) through competitive examinations.
Additionally, the government announced a new program — the Mukhyamantri Sonkhalaghu Unnayan Prakalpa 2025 — to boost the economic conditions of religious minorities. The scheme provides ₹1.5 crore in funding for small business ventures and a one-time grant of ₹10,000, distributed in two installments. The first phase will benefit 1,500 individuals, implemented under the Department of Welfare of Minorities.
Minister Chowdhury emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive development and empowerment across all sections of society.
