Tripura father appeals for help to save 9-year-old daughter; Stem cell transplant needs Rs 22 lakh

Agartala, 22nd December 2025:   A father from Jolaibari’s Shantiniketan Para has appealed to the people of Tripura for help in saving his nine-year-old daughter, Suprita, who has been battling thalassemia since birth. Suprita requires blood transfusions two to three times every month, a struggle her parents, Plabon Bhowmik and Shubhra Sinha, have endured for years despite their dire financial condition.

Recently, the family took Suprita to CMC Vellore, where doctors offered a ray of hope. Tests revealed that Suprita’s younger sister is a 100 percent genetic match, making her eligible to donate stem cells. Doctors confirmed that a stem cell transplantation could cure Suprita completely. However, the treatment is prohibitively expensive, estimated at over Rs 16 lakh, with an additional Rs 5–6 lakh required for the family’s three to four-month stay during the procedure. In total, nearly Rs 21–22 lakh is needed.

The family has already exhausted their resources, mortgaging belongings and seeking aid from neighbors and friends. While Rs 3 lakh has been sanctioned from the PM CARES Fund, a shortfall of Rs 9–10 lakh remains. The transplant has been scheduled for January 3, 2026, at CMC Vellore, leaving little time to raise the remaining funds.

Local youths have formed WhatsApp groups to collect donations, and several NGOs have extended support. Yet, the gap persists. Plabon Bhowmik continues to appeal to the public, hoping that with collective assistance, his daughter can be given a new lease on life. Residents of Jolaibari have also urged Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, ministers, and kind-hearted citizens to step forward in support.
