Agartala, 1st July 2024:   In a proactive move to enforce three new criminal laws, police authorities in Agartala took significant steps to educate the public. The new laws including the Indian Justice Code, Indian Civil Protection Code, and Indian Evidence Act, came into effect nationwide on Monday, July 1. The initiative marks a departure from colonial-era statutes, as envisioned by the BJP government.

Highlighting the efforts, West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar stated, “We have initiated a series of awareness campaigns to ensure smooth implementation of these laws.” The police commenced their outreach with a camp at West Agartala Mahila Police Station, followed by a procession through Agartala city. These activities aimed to sensitize citizens about the implications and benefits of the new legal framework.

The implementation follows parliamentary approval despite opposition objections during the last session. “The transition from the Indian Penal Code and other outdated laws underscores our commitment to modernizing the legal landscape,” added Kumar in a media briefing.

With the laws now in effect, local authorities are intensifying efforts to familiarize residents with the revised regulations, emphasizing a shift towards contemporary legal standards.
