Agartala, 17th November 2025: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has emphasized the state government’s commitment to completing the expansion of the Assam–Agartala National Highway (NH-8) into four lanes within the stipulated timeframe, underscoring its importance for the state’s overall development and public convenience.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat, attended by Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary Kiran Gitte, senior engineers of the National Highways division, and officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the Minister reviewed the progress of the project through a detailed PowerPoint presentation.
“For the comprehensive development of the state, economic and transport progress is possible only through a well-planned and safe road system. Our government’s goal is to complete the expansion of national highways within the scheduled time to modernize road connectivity and ensure public convenience,” Chowdhury said.
The Minister acknowledged that land-related issues have posed challenges to the project but assured that steps are being taken to resolve them on priority. The expansion work covers the stretch from Ranirbazar Fire Station in Majlishpur constituency to the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Madhabbari.
“We are determined to accelerate the four-lane expansion and development of NH-8. Problems hindering the project will be identified on a priority basis, and solutions will be worked out so that the project can be completed swiftly within the fixed timeline,” Chowdhury urged officials.
The meeting highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure to boost connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance public safety. Chowdhury called upon all stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure that the project progresses without delay.
