Agartala, 18th June 2025: Tripura’s five youths have been accused of stealing cash and gold from their employer in Chennai, where they had been working at a private housekeeping firm.

According to Monir Hossain, a resident of Udaipur and the proprietor of MS Home Cleaning Services, the five individuals identified as Masum Mia, Sohag Mia of Kayerdhepa, Rimon Mia, Bapan Das and Abdul Mia of Rajnagar in Belonia had been employed by his company for several months.

Hossain stated that on the day of the incident, he was out on assignment and had informed his staff about the location of his house keys when arranging for someone to pick up his son from school. His wife, also employed at a company was on duty at the time.

“It was a complete breach of trust. I never expected that people from my own state, whom I supported with jobs would do something like this,” Hossain told this correspondent.

Taking advantage of the situation, the five men allegedly entered the employer’s residence and absconded with Rs 2 lakh in cash and two gold bars. They were last seen riding three scooties, which they later abandoned by the roadside before reportedly contacting a known theft ring.

Despite Hossain’s immediate efforts to trace the suspects, they could not be located. A formal complaint was lodged at the local police station and an investigation is currently underway.

Sources close to the family stated that the accused had not submitted personal documents required for background verification. “We now plan to approach the Tripura administration to ensure legal action is taken across state lines,” Hossain added.

This incident comes just months after another controversy involving youths from Charilam, raising concerns about repeated breaches of trust tied to migration from Tripura for employment.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether a case will be filed in Tripura, but Hossain has expressed his intent to pursue justice both in Tamil Nadu and his home state.
