Agartala, 27th August 2025 : Police in Khowai intercepted a timber-laden truck on the national highway late Tuesday night, uncovering approximately 80 feet of illegally transported wood. The vehicle was stopped during a routine naka checking operation, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including the driver.
According to officials, the truck was flagged down for questioning as it passed through the Khowai stretch of the highway. Upon inspection, police discovered a large quantity of valuable timber. When asked to produce valid documentation for the consignment, the truck owner failed to provide any papers.
Police immediately alerted the Forest Department, which confirmed the seizure of nearly 80 feet of timber suspected to be smuggled. The three detained individuals are currently under investigation, and further legal action is expected.
Authorities have intensified surveillance along key transit routes in the region to curb illegal timber trafficking, which poses a serious threat to forest conservation efforts.
