Agartala, 10th September 2024: The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has dismantled 68 hooklines from September 1 to September 9 and collected a total of Rs 4 lakh in fines for illegal hookline connections.
In a press statement, TSECL emphasized that using hooklines is not only a legally punishable offense but also poses severe safety risks. “Many individuals have lost their lives in the past due to hookline usage or accidental electrocution. Consequently, TSECL has intensified its anti-hookline campaign. Despite repeated requests and warnings, some individuals continue to use electricity illegally through hooklines. This is the primary reason for the corporation’s statewide crackdown on hookline connections,” the statement said.
The release noted that when hooklines are detected in someone’s residence or institution, all associated equipment is confiscated, and substantial fines are imposed.
“During the anti-hookline campaign from September 1 to September 9, a total of 68 hooklines were dismantled. Service lines were cut in 14 cases due to proven irregularities, and fines amounting to Rs 4 lakh 21 thousand were levied during these operations,” the statement added.
The press release also mentioned that operations were conducted in Shantirbazar in the South District today.
“TSECL’s vigilance teams, local electricity department staff, and sub-division workers have been conducting anti-hookline operations daily across various locations in the state. The intensity of this campaign will increase in the coming days. If necessary, legal action will also be pursued against individuals or institutions involved,” it concluded.
