Agartala, 10th September 2024: Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman launched a scathing attack on Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman questioning his alignment with political interests. “How long will you serve political interests by explaining the simple Tiprasa’s mistakes?” Barman asked, suggesting that personal interests are being prioritized over the welfare of the people by stepping into the trap set by the central government.
Barman highlighted the recent announcement of a special package for extremist groups, criticizing both the former Left Front government and the current BJP-led administration for their lack of support for those displaced by extremism. “No package has been announced for those who have left their homes and taken refuge elsewhere due to the problem of extremism. Instead, the government has announced a big package for these extremist organizations. This shows how indifferent the present government is,” Barman claimed.
Addressing a press conference at Agartala, Barman accused him of bypassing the Council of Ministers to announce a package of Rs 564 crore for flood victims during the Assembly session. “It is completely illegal and irregular. The Chief Minister did not hold any cabinet meeting and made this announcement after joining the assembly from Delhi. Therefore, the members of the Council of Ministers are requested to apologize in this regard,” Barman demanded.
Barman further criticized the government’s handling of flood relief efforts. “In the assembly and all-party meetings, the Congress demanded that the government, as per the preliminary report, disclose the damage of Rs 14,247 crore and the amount of damage in each department. But even after 21 days of the flood, no financial support has been provided to the state by the central government,” he stated. He pointed out that the Rs 40 crore announced by the Union Home Minister is an annual allocation for natural calamities, given in advance this year.
“The central government has not paid even a single rupee till now for the flood damage. There were demands to declare Tripura as a national calamity in the assembly and all-party meetings, but the central government did not do that either. The government is not heeding the demand for a special package, and as a result, people are not getting any help,” Barman asserted.
Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha was also present at the press conference, supporting Barman’s claims and emphasizing the need for immediate government action to address the grievances of the people affected by extremism and natural calamities.
