Agartala, 5th June 2025 :  In a committed step towards environmental sustainability, Tripura State Power Corporation Limited (TSECL) observed World Environment Day with an awareness program at its corporate office on Thursday, in association with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

The event, inaugurated by State Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, IAS revolved around the global theme: “End Plastic Pollution.” The initiative aimed to reinforce a historic commitment to protecting the environment through decisive action.

Senior officials, including Transport Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury, Managing Director Biswajit Basu, Finance Director Sarvjit Singh Dogra, General Manager Swapan Debbarma and BEE Nodal Officer Seema Das attended the program.

Emphasizing India’s clean energy goals, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh urged citizens to embrace renewable solutions. “The common man should join the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana to actively contribute to eco-friendly energy generation through solar power adoption at home. Additionally, the widespread use of electric vehicles—cars, bikes, and scooters—must increase to curb pollution,” he stated.

Setting a strong precedent for environmental awareness, Managing Director Biswajit Basu announced a firm commitment to eliminating plastic usage at TSECL’s corporate office. “A goal has been set to make our office completely plastic-free within the next two months. This will be an exemplary step towards sustainability in Tripura,” he affirmed.

Highlighting the pressing need for action, Finance Director Sarvjit Singh Dogra warned against unchecked environmental destruction. “The environment is under threat due to rampant deforestation, excessive use of single-use plastics, and rising pollution levels. If we don’t act now, future generations will face inevitable disaster,” he cautioned.

To mark the occasion, officials distributed saplings of fruit-bearing, medicinal and flowering plants among residents. Managing Director Basu, General Manager Debbarma and Seema Das personally participated in the initiative to encourage green cover expansion.

A colorful rally promoting clean transportation followed, featuring electric cars, bikes, scooters, and auto-rickshaws traversing city streets before culminating at Vivekananda Maidan.

The observance extended across all divisions and sub-divisions of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, where awareness programs emphasized tree plantation and cleanliness drives.

With TSECL leading the charge, Tripura’s World Environment Day celebrations set a crucial milestone in fostering a greener, more sustainable future.
