Agartala, 11th June 2024:  Tripura police in Bishalgarh have apprehended two notorious cow smugglers operating near the India-Bangladesh border. The arrests took place under the jurisdiction of the Bishalgarh police station on Monday night.

According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bishalgarh police station Rana Chatterjee, Ataur Rahman Joy and Kasem Mia, also known as Rakesh, were taken into custody. A cargo Bolero pick-up vehicle accompanying the suspects was also seized during the operation.

Interrogations of the arrested individuals led to the recovery of a stolen cow and revealed the names of several other traffickers involved in the smuggling operation. This follows the earlier arrest of three other members of the same gang, indicating a significant breakthrough in the crackdown against the smuggling ring.

The police handed over the arrested smugglers to the court on Tuesday. Further investigations are ongoing as authorities aim to dismantle the entire network of cow smugglers operating in the region.
