Agartala, 2nd August 2024:   The Agartala Railway Station’s GRP personnel arrested two Indian touts and eight Bangladeshi nationals at the Agartala railway station on Thursday. This incident comes amid rising concerns over increased intrusions into Indian territory during the ongoing quota movement in Bangladesh.

The arrested Bangladeshi nationals identified as Shahadat Hossain, Trisha Akhtar, Sapla Akhtar, Raju Ahmed, Shah Alam, Sukhdri Sheikh, Mohammad Biplab and Karim Sheikh were reportedly attempting to travel to Kolkata and Chennai. The two Indian nationals Ratan Pal and Shukla Sarkar residents of Melaghar were allegedly assisting them.

A case has been registered against the arrested individuals under specific clauses at the Agartala GRP police station. The Officer-in-Charge of the station Tapas Das confirmed that the arrested individuals were handed over to the court on Friday, with a request for police remand.

This incident has sparked concerns among the local population about the frequent intrusions from Bangladesh. Despite the arrests, there are growing worries about the underlying reasons behind these large-scale infiltrations. The administration has remained tight-lipped about the situation, leaving many questions unanswered.
