Agartala, 18th July 2026: Emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation, protection of forest resources, and large-scale plantation drives, the 77th State-Level Van Mahotsav was celebrated at Teliamura on Saturday. The programme was organized at Chitrangada Kala Kendra (Town Hall), where government officials, elected representatives, forest department personnel, and local residents participated in the event with enthusiasm.
The event was formally inaugurated by Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who marked the beginning of the celebration by planting a sapling and watering it symbolically. The programme was attended by Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and Teliamura MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, Kalyanpur-Pramodnagar MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) R. K. Shyamal, senior officials of the Forest Department, and other distinguished guests.
As part of the celebration, the dignitaries visited various exhibition stalls set up by different government departments. They reviewed displays highlighting development projects, forest and environmental conservation initiatives, and various public welfare programmes.
During the programme, financial assistance cheques amounting to Rs 1 lakh were handed over to representatives of different Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The initiative is expected to strengthen the financial stability and self-reliance of these groups.
Another significant highlight of the event was the virtual inauguration of five Anti-Depredation Camps across Tripura. These camps aim to reduce human-wildlife conflict in forest-adjacent areas, ensure quick response and rescue operations, implement preventive measures, and enhance the safety of local communities.
Addressing the gathering, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma said, “Plant trees, protect trees, and save yourself. Van Mahotsav is not just a festival; it is a social and environmental awareness movement. Through this initiative, our aim is to spread the message of environmental protection to the state, the nation, and the world.”
The Minister also urged citizens to plant more trees and ensure proper care and maintenance of the saplings planted, stressing that collective participation is essential for protecting the environment and securing a sustainable future.
