Agartala, 13th August 2024:   In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested a female passenger on a Silchar-Agartala-bound train on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty along with GRPF arrested Jahanara Begum (47), resident of Boxanagar.

“Upon searching her belongings, we recovered 20,000 Yaba tablets with a black market value of Rs 1 crore,” said SP Chakraborty.

The arrest highlights the increasing violence and desperation among drug dealers. “We are seeing a trend where traffickers are using women to transport drugs,” added an expert on the matter.

The police have registered an NDPS case and are currently interrogating Begum. “Our interrogation aims to uncover the source of these tablets in Silchar and identify the intended recipients in Boxanagar,” stated a police official.

The investigation continues as authorities work to dismantle the network behind this operation.
