Agartala, 4th October 2023 : In a shocking turn of events, a youth identified as Dipankar Debnath from Udaipur, found himself at the mercy of an enraged crowd after allegedly stealing money from a grocery store’s cash box in Belonia’s Rajib Corner area.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning, sending shockwaves through the community. Upon learning of the theft, the irate shop owner, Amar Dutta, swiftly pursued and apprehended the accused, Dipankar, who reportedly made off with 10,000 rupees. The incident occurred during the owner’s temporary absence. As the commotion unfolded, concerned citizens and nearby shopkeepers joined the pursuit, leading to a crowd gathering. In a distressing escalation, Dipankar was fastened to electric poles amidst the mounting frenzy. It was only through the timely intervention of the local police that the youth was rescued from the mob’s clutches. Law enforcement promptly arrived on the scene and managed to extract Dipankar from the perilous situation, bringing him safely to the Belonia police station.
