Harris vows CNN debate on Oct 23, Trump says ‘too late’

Date:

US Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to hold a second debate with former US leader Donald Trump as part of their presidential election campaign, accepting an invitation from CNN for October 23, but Trump believes it is “too late.”

“I will gladly accept a second presidential debate on October 23. I hope @realDonaldTrump will join me,” Harris said on X.

As indicated in a separate statement by Harris’ campaign manager Jen Dillon, Trump should have no problem approving the debate on the CNN platform.

At the same time, neither the former US president nor his campaign team have yet agreed to CNN’s invitation to hold another debate just 12 days before the next presidential election, scheduled for November 5.

Trump believes that it is too late to hold a new debate with his rival Harris.

“The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late. Voting has already started. She’s had her chance to do it with Fox. You know, Fox invited us on, and I waited and waited, and they turned it down, they turned it down. But now she wants to do a debate right before the election with CNN, because she’s losing badly,” Trump said at a meeting with supporters in North Carolina.

Previously, both rivals met on stage in Philadelphia as part of a debate organized by ABC News. As a result of that standoff, Harris overtook Trump in the polls. However, Trump did not admit defeat, saying that these were his best debates, but refused to hold a new round.

The US presidential election will be held on November 5. The Democratic Party will be represented by Vice President Harris, and the Republican Party by former President Trump. UNI/SPUTNIK AKS
