Irregularities alleged in Kadamtala CDPO office; Locals demand minister’s intervention

Agartala, 5th July 2025:  Serious allegations have surfaced against the Child Development Project Office (CDPO) under the 54-Kurti Kadamtala assembly constituency of Dharmanagar subdivision, which oversees 319 Anganwadi Kendras. Locals have accused CDPO Biswajit Das of irregular attendance, which they claim is severely hampering administrative functions and causing distress to the public.

According to reports, after the recent retirement of the chief assistant, popularly known as Barababu, the post was filled by office employee Rupi Dey. However, his functioning has reportedly been paralyzed due to the mysterious disappearance of the sole auxiliary computer necessary for his work. Sources allege that another staff member relocated the device to a different section and is now demanding that all administrative work be routed through that department.

“Although the concerned employee has his own laptop, he is allegedly using the government-provided laptop instead,” a staff member revealed on condition of anonymity.

As a result, vital administrative processes such as salary disbursement, retirement formalities and important documentation have come to a standstill. Although a new laptop has reportedly been procured for the office, its current whereabouts remain unknown, creating further confusion and dissatisfaction among the staff.

This has raised serious questions about internal coordination and oversight. “How is the new Barababu expected to work without basic equipment? What action has CDPO Biswajit Das taken so far to resolve this?” asked a local resident.

Meanwhile, fresh allegations of corruption have emerged regarding the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SMP), particularly concerning the distribution of rice and pulses in Anganwadi Kendras. It is claimed that instead of the mandated 40 kg allocation, lesser quantities are being delivered in collusion between the CDPO and the SMP in-charge adversely impacting maternal and child nutrition services.

Notably, similar allegations were made against Bishwajit Das during his tenure at the Panisagar CDPO office, where he was reportedly associated with the same SMP in-charge. Widespread controversy over food supply irregularities had then led to his transfer to Kadamtala.

Given the current situation, the integrity, efficiency, and accountability of the department have come under public scrutiny. Local residents have urged Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy to intervene without delay to restore normalcy and ensure the delivery of proper services to the community.
