Agartala, 22nd July 2025:  A group of agitated students from Narendra Nagar Higher Secondary School at Damcherra staged a road blockade on the Damcherra-Jalabasa main road near the office of the Damcherra BDO yesterday morning. Their protest stemmed from growing frustration over a severe shortage of teachers and longstanding infrastructural deficiencies at the institution.

According to student representatives, the school which caters to classes VI to X has only three teachers to manage five classes. This acute shortfall has persisted despite repeated complaints to the Education Department and appeals to the school inspector and management committee, which have allegedly gone unheeded.

With examination season approaching, students claimed their academic future is in jeopardy, as the limited staff is unable to provide adequate instruction. They described the ongoing situation as pushing the institution toward collapse and accused authorities of gross negligence.

Police personnel from the local Damchhara station promptly arrived at the protest site and successfully brought the situation under control. Later, a sub-inspector and one of the school’s teachers intervened, assuring the students that the teacher shortage and infrastructure problems would be addressed soon. Following this promise, the students withdrew their road blockade.

However, the demonstrators warned that if their demands remain unmet, they will escalate their agitation with wider participation and renewed intensity.
