Agartala, 25th July 2025:   Two unidentified youths allegedly posed as government surveyors and robbed a woman in Tongibari Gram Panchayat’s Ward No. 5. The accused reportedly entered the home of Jabeda Khatun, who was alone at the time and rendered her unconscious using a chemical spray before fleeing with her gold earrings.

According to police sources, the incident took place in broad daylight when the duo pressured Khatun to allow them entry under the pretense of conducting a government survey. Upon gaining access, one of the men sprayed an unknown substance, causing her to lose consciousness for nearly 30 minutes. Neighbours rushed her to North Tripura District Hospital after she regained consciousness and raised an alarm.

CCTV footage reviewed by the victim’s family reportedly identifies the suspects. A formal complaint has been filed at Dharmanagar police station, and investigations are underway with the aid of technical surveillance.

A senior police official, requesting anonymity, confirmed that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness and arrests are expected soon. Locals expressed growing concern over rising intrusions by unknown individuals and called for increased police patrolling.

“This kind of incident in broad daylight raises serious questions about our safety at night,” said one resident, urging authorities to act swiftly. Another lamented the absence of police vigilance, calling the incident a wake-up call for the administration.
