Agartala, 13th October 2025:   A 52-year-old man tragically drowned while fishing in a pond near Champamura on Sunday afternoon, prompting an outpouring of grief across the local community.

Radha Gobinda Debnath, a resident of East Gokulnagar near the CTI Camp under Bishalgarh police station, had gone to a pond in the Champamura area around 1 PM on Sunday to fish using a rod and line. When he failed to return home by evening, his family and local residents launched a search that continued through the night.

On Monday morning, Debnath’s son found his father’s dead body floating in the same pond where he had gone fishing. His cries alerted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene along with family members. Bishalgarh police were immediately informed, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer IPS Bikash Cynthia arrived at the location to oversee the investigation.

A forensic team was called in to examine the site. Following a detailed inspection, Debnath’s body was recovered around 2:30 PM and sent to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Local sources described Debnath as a man deeply passionate about music. Police have registered an unnatural death case and initiated a formal investigation. His body will be handed over to the family after completion of the autopsy.

The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the Champamura and CTI Camp-adjacent areas, where residents are mourning the sudden loss of a beloved community member.
