Agartala, 17th November 2025:   The timing of the daily Beating Retreat ceremony at the Akhaura-Agartala border has been revised. The event, which previously began at 4:30 PM will now start at 4 PM each day until February 2026, according to Border Security Force (BSF) officials.

The adjustment, effective from Saturday, November 15, 2025, was made due to earlier sunsets during the winter season. However, many visitors were unaware of the change and arrived at the border at the old schedule over the past two days, missing the ceremony.

BSF sources explained that such seasonal changes are routine, as sunset times advance during winter. The December–February period also coincides with peak tourist season, making the revised schedule particularly significant for visitors.

Officials have urged tourists and locals to arrive at the border by 4:00 PM to witness the ceremony. “Those present at the designated time will be able to enjoy the full display,” a BSF spokesperson said.

The Beating Retreat, held daily, remains one of the key attractions at the border. The ceremony features synchronized parades, military band performances, and the lowering of national flags by Indian BSF and their counterparts from the neighboring country. Rooted in 17th-century military tradition, the ritual has evolved into a major tourist draw, similar to the famed Wagah border ceremony in Punjab.

At Tripura’s Akhaura land port, the event draws large crowds each year, with visitors ranging from local residents to tourists from distant regions. The coordinated display of discipline, camaraderie, and military precision by both nations’ border guards continues to make the Beating Retreat a symbol of friendship and cultural exchange.
