Agartala, 18th November 2025 : The All Tripura Unorganized Workers’ Congress staged a mass sit-in today in front of the Congress Bhavan, pressing for multiple demands. Later, the organization submitted a memorandum with a three-point charter to the Mission Director of the National Health Mission.
The workers highlighted the uncertainty of employment and worsening financial distress. They alleged that DDT workers under the Health Department receive employment for only five months in a year, making it nearly impossible to sustain their families or lead a normal life.
The organization further claimed that MGNREGA workers in the state are being consistently deprived. Despite promises of increased daily wages and a minimum of 200 days of work annually, the government has allegedly failed to implement these commitments. As a result, MGNREGA workers are facing acute financial hardship, scarcity, and family disputes.
In addition, the group pointed out that Mid-Day Meal workers and ASHA workers have yet to be regularized. They recalled that after coming to power, the BJP government had pledged to regularize all irregular employees, including Mid-Day Meal and ASHA workers. However, even after several years, that promise remains unfulfilled.
The organization warned that if their three-point demands are not addressed promptly, they will launch a larger movement.
Today’s sit-in was attended by All Tripura Unorganized Workers’ Congress Chairman Shantanu Pal, Sadar District Congress President Tanmoy Saha, Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty, and other leaders.
