Agartala, 22nd December 2025:  The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, has suspended all visa and consular services with effect from December 23, 2025, until further notice, citing “unavoidable circumstances.” The decision was announced through an official notification issued on Sunday.

The notice, signed by First Secretary and Head of Mission S. M. Almas Hossain, stated that all categories of visa issuance and consular activities at the mission will remain closed until further instructions are issued.

The suspension comes amid heightened tensions following protests outside the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission. The demonstrations were led by the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, the Tipra Indigenous Students Federation (TISF), along with several right-wing organizations.

Protesters alleged attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh and objected to recent statements made by leaders of Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party. They raised slogans and demanded strong action from the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and protection of minority communities in the country.

As a precautionary measure, security around the mission was significantly tightened to maintain law and order during the protests.
