Agartala, 14th February 2026: Polling for the Tripura Bar Council elections progressed smoothly today, with Returning Officer Justice S. C. Das confirming that the process remained peaceful throughout the day.
Addressing reporters at the premises of the Tripura High Court, Justice Das said voting commenced at 9 am. Although turnout was initially modest, participation improved significantly after 10 am as more voters arrived at polling stations.
Seven polling booths have been set up within the High Court complex in Agartala, where voting is being conducted simultaneously. “All seven polling stations at the High Court premises are functioning together without disruption,” he stated.
In addition to Agartala, polling arrangements have been made in Bishalgarh, Sonamura, Udaipur, Belonia, Khowai, Kailashahar, Kamalpur and Dharmanagar. Returning Officers, Polling Officers and Observers were centrally appointed for each location and received prior training to ensure smooth conduct of the election.
Voting will continue until 4 pm. Justice Das clarified that voters who enter the polling station premises before the deadline will be permitted to cast their ballots. Once polling concludes, the Returning Officers and polling officials will seal the ballot boxes in accordance with established procedures.
A total of 1,678 voters are eligible to participate in the election, including 1,191 from Agartala. Eleven members will be elected to the Bar Council in this exercise.
The Returning Officer further informed that the election is being held in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India. Tripura is conducting its polls in the second phase alongside Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
A High Power Committee constituted by the apex court, along with two counting experts, is scheduled to arrive on February 20. The counting of votes will begin the following day, February 21.
