Women’s empowerment message marks launch of first ‘Shokhi Shilpo Mela’ at Sabroom

Agartala, 26th February 2026:   The Rupai Cherra RD Block in Sabroom subdivision hosted the inaugural Shokhi Shilpo Mela today, celebrating women’s self-reliance and entrepreneurship. The event created a festive atmosphere across the region, drawing wide participation and enthusiasm.

The fair was formally inaugurated in the presence of local MLA Mailafru Mog, SDM Suman Rakshit, Rupaicherra RD Block BDO Pritam Debnath, and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, SDM Suman Rakhit emphasized the growing role of women in shaping society and the economy. “Women are no longer behind. They are building their own identity and their participation in the mainstream is steadily increasing,” he said, underlining the importance of women’s empowerment.

A poignant moment came when young Sarika Epura led an oath against child marriage, her resolute voice leaving a deep impression on the audience and adding a strong humanitarian dimension to the program. The event also witnessed the official unveiling of the new logo of Rupai Cherra RD Block.

According to organizers, 24 self-help groups (SHGs) set up stalls at the fair, showcasing handicrafts and homemade products. The block currently has 608 SHGs involving 5,546 women, including 46 recognized as “Lakhpati Didis.” Organizers noted that the Shokhi Shilpo Mela will serve as a vital platform for women to market their creations, strengthening their financial independence and self-sufficiency.
