Agartala, 28th February 2026 :  Holi, the festival of colours, is set to once again paint the city in vibrant hues as preparations gather momentum across Tripura’s capital. Known as Dol in Bengal, Holi holds a special place among the 13 festivals celebrated over 12 months, remaining one of the most cherished occasions for people of all ages.

With the arrival of spring, the spirit of Holi brings together joy, music and colours, turning streets, grounds and resorts into spaces of celebration. Over the past two to three years, several organisations have taken the initiative to organise large-scale Holi events across Agartala. Open grounds within the city have emerged as popular venues, hosting live DJ performances, music shows and lively pool parties that attract huge crowds.

This year, the festival will be celebrated over two days, on March 3 and March 4, and enthusiasm is already visible in the markets. Stalls selling colourful abir and a variety of colour-playing equipment have come up across the city. Traders report brisk sales at key marketplaces such as Maharajganj Bazar and Battala Bazar, where shelves are stocked with water guns, organic colours and festive accessories.

Alongside colours, the Holi season has also sparked a mini shopping rush for clothes. Several business establishments in the city are offering special collections suited for Holi celebrations, adding to the festive buzz.

Interestingly, the celebrations are also reflecting changing times. With social media playing a central role, sharing Holi moments online has become as important as playing with colours. In the age of Artificial Intelligence, digitally enhanced, Bollywood-style Holi pictures are gaining popularity, sometimes even replacing traditional celebrations.

As the city stands at the crossroads of tradition and technology, this year’s Holi highlights an emerging contrast, the joy of real colours versus the creativity of AI-generated celebrations making the festival a blend of age-old culture and modern expression.
