SP Avinash Rai earns praise for peaceful elections in North Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 27th April 2026:   For the first time in decades, two constituencies in North Tripura witnessed elections conducted in an exceptionally peaceful manner—an unprecedented development that has drawn widespread appreciation from residents and observers alike. Voters across age groups, from 18 to over 80, were able to exercise their democratic rights without fear or disruption.

Much of the credit has gone to Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Rai and his team, whose vigilance and leadership ensured law and order throughout the process. Rai, originally from Uttar Pradesh, holds a B.Sc. in Nautical Science and began his career as a Merchant Navy captain in Singapore in 2006. After nine years of service at sea, he cleared the UPSC examination in 2018, completed IPS training in 2019, and has since held key postings including SDPO Kanchanpur, Additional SP West Rural, SP Dhalai, and currently SP North Tripura.

Rai’s distinguished service has been recognized with the prestigious DGP Commendation Disk and Trophy in 2022, 2023, and 2025—an honor awarded for exceptional bravery, investigative success, or long-standing dedication to duty.

Under his command, North Tripura police achieved significant breakthroughs, including the arrest of nine militants from the banned Tripura United National Front (TUNF), along with arms and ammunition. His team also acted decisively during the communal unrest in Kadamtala in 2024, and in Dharmanagar when tensions rose following the illness of local MLA Biswabandhu Sen.

Ahead of the recent elections, fears of violence and disorder loomed large among residents. However, proactive policing and pre-emptive action against troublemakers transformed anxiety into relief, allowing the polls and subsequent counting to proceed smoothly. Intellectuals and community leaders have lauded Rai’s sharp administrative foresight and his constant presence on the ground, which instilled public confidence that the administration stood firmly by the people.

Citizens of North Tripura have expressed heartfelt gratitude to SP Avinash Rai and his team for safeguarding peace and harmony. Many believe his career sets an inspiring example for future generations, demonstrating how duty to the nation can be fulfilled with courage, integrity, and dedication.
