South Tripura District Hospital progresses towards national recognition amid controversy

Date:

Agartala, 1ST June 2026:   South Tripura District Hospital has emerged as a leading institution in providing healthcare services, thanks to the relentless efforts of several doctors who work tirelessly day and night. Their dedication has not only ensured proper treatment for patients admitted to the hospital but also contributed significantly to the overall development of the institution.

As a result of this continuous progress, the hospital is now on the verge of receiving national-level support. On Monday, a three-member NQAS team arrived to conduct a detailed inspection of the hospital. The visit, scheduled to last three days, began with a formal welcome ceremony for the delegates, followed by discussions on various infrastructural aspects. Subsequently, the team inspected both internal and external facilities of the hospital.

However, the inspection was marred by controversy. Allegations surfaced against Dr. Rahul Das, Medical Officer of Rupai Cherra Primary Health Centre under Sabroom subdivision, who reportedly obstructed journalists from covering the inspection. Locals accused him of attempting to tarnish the hospital’s reputation by creating disorder during the crucial visit. Rumors suggest that Dr. Das, already facing allegations of financial irregularities in Rupai Cherra projects, tried to disrupt the NQAS team’s evaluation. His actions have sparked widespread criticism, with many questioning why such an officer was present at the hospital on this important day.

The inspection team comprised Sunit Srivastava, Renuka Sinde, and Ankita Nath, accompanied by South District Zilla Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, Shantir Bazar MLA Pramod Reang, Chairman of Shantir Bazar Municipality Sapna Baidya, Vice-Chairman Satyabrata Saha, Acting Medical Officer of South Tripura District Hospital Lufang Mog, and Chief Medical Officer of South District J.M. Das.

The arrival of the NQAS team generated immense enthusiasm among local residents, who expressed strong hopes for the hospital’s comprehensive development. The community widely believes that national-level recognition will further strengthen healthcare services in Santirbazar.
