Missing Housewife Rescued from Kolkata, Reunited with Family by Tripura Police

Agartala, 3rd June 2026:  In a successful rescue operation, police from Jatrapur Police Station in Tripura’s Sepahijala district traced and rescued a missing housewife from the Rajarhat area of Kolkata, West Bengal, and safely reunited her with her family. The development has brought relief to residents of Nirbhoypur village.

According to police sources, Promita Bhowmik (Majumdar), wife of Prasenjit Majumdar and a resident of the border village of Nirbhoypur under Jatrapur Police Station, left her home on May 23 along with her infant child. When she failed to return and her whereabouts remained unknown, her family grew concerned and began searching for her.

As part of the investigation, Jatrapur Police employed modern technological tools, including mobile phone tracking, CCTV footage analysis, and monitoring of social media activities. Their efforts eventually revealed that Promita was staying at a hotel in Rajarhat, on the outskirts of Kolkata.

Acting swiftly on the information, a special team from Jatrapur Police, accompanied by Promita’s husband and mother-in-law, traveled to Rajarhat. Upon reaching the location, the team successfully rescued Promita and her child from the hotel and safely brought them back to Tripura.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Partha Nath Bhowmik of Jatrapur Police Station said that based on intelligence inputs, a team led by Sub-Inspector Bijoy Chakraborty immediately proceeded to Rajarhat and carried out the rescue operation successfully. The team returned to the state with the woman and her child on Monday.

Police officials stated that they are investigating the circumstances that led the woman to leave her home. They have also advised family members to ensure that she is not subjected to any form of physical or mental harassment after her return and have urged them to handle the matter with sensitivity.

The successful completion of the rescue operation has been widely appreciated by local residents, who praised the prompt and professional efforts of Jatrapur Police.
