Agartala, 8th July 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala Centre, has predicted widespread rainfall activity across Tripura over the next three days, with heavy to very heavy showers expected in several parts of the state due to prevailing weather systems affecting eastern and northeastern India.
An Orange Warning has been issued for West Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai, and Gomati** districts for July 08, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The remaining districts are under a Yellow Warning, where heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places.
For July 9, the IMD has placed all eight districts of Tripura under a Yellow Warning, forecasting heavy rainfall across the state. On July 10, heavy rainfall is likely to continue over isolated areas of West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura.
The IMD attributed the weather conditions to the seasonal trough at mean sea level, which stretches from southwest Rajasthan to northeast Bangladesh via the centre of a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh, passing through north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. Additionally, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over northeast Assam up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. These systems are expected to strengthen moisture inflow into Tripura, resulting in enhanced rainfall activity over the coming days.
The state has already witnessed substantial rainfall over the past 24 hours (from 8:30 am on July 7 to 8:30 am on July 8). Chawmanu in Dhalai district recorded the highest rainfall at 139.2 mm, followed by Lembucherra in West Tripura with 105.5 mm. Kumarghat in Unakoti district received 92 mm, while Kadamtala in North Tripura recorded 58 mm during the same period.
