Agartala, 18th July 2026 : With the launch of the first phase of Census 2027, India’s first fully digital census, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder has appealed to the people of Tripura to actively participate in the nationwide self-enumeration process by submitting their details online from the comfort of their homes.
The self-enumeration facility, which commenced on July 17, will remain open until July 31. The appeal was made during a programme held at the Mayor’s residence in Ramnagar, Agartala, in the presence of Director of Census Operations, Tripura, Ratan Biswas, and other officials.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Dipak Majumder described the census as a crucial exercise for shaping the country’s future. He noted that the previous census was conducted in 2011 and said the new digital census would play a vital role in planning infrastructure development, administrative arrangements, financial allocations, reservation policies, and determining the composition of legislative bodies. He stressed that census data forms the foundation for government planning and welfare schemes.
Calling upon residents of Agartala and the entire state, the Mayor urged citizens to ensure that their personal information is accurately recorded and to extend full cooperation to census officials during the exercise. He said the success of the census would contribute significantly to the development of both Tripura and the nation.
Director of Census Operations, Ratan Biswas, highlighted that the self-enumeration facility has been introduced for the first time in the country’s census history. He informed that citizens can access the dedicated portal, se.census.gov.in, select Tripura, log in using their mobile number, and complete the questionnaire comprising 33 census parameters within five to seven minutes.
Biswas explained that after successful submission, a unique self-enumeration ID is generated, which should be preserved. Enumerators visiting households between August 1 and August 30 will use this ID to verify the information and rectify any errors before final submission. He also assured that any mistakes made during self-enumeration would be corrected during field verification.
Describing the response received on the opening day as “tremendous,” Biswas appealed to people from all sections of society to participate in what he termed a historic digital initiative, marking a new chapter in India’s decennial census process.
