Education Department Intensifies School Monitoring, 30 Served Show-Cause Notices

Date:

Agartala, 21st   August 2026 :  The School Education Department has intensified its monitoring of government schools across West District, with a recent round of surprise inspections exposing several shortcomings and prompting disciplinary action against school personnel.

The inspections were conducted in schools and hostels under different Education Inspectorates by Officers on Special Duty (OSDs) of the Directorate of Elementary Education, under the direction of the Director of School Education.

Officials said the inspections were undertaken to assess the quality of teaching, implementation of academic programmes and adherence to administrative norms. The teams reviewed classroom teaching, attendance, student assessment, foundational learning activities and the functioning of pre-primary sections.

A major focus of the inspections was the implementation of NIPUN Tripura. Officers examined the use of teacher-prepared Teaching-Learning Materials, activity-based teaching methods, NIPUN Corners and other learning resources supplied by the department.

The teams also inspected the implementation of the PM POSHAN programme, particularly the quality of meals, food preparation practices and hygiene. Cleanliness of school premises, sanitation facilities and the overall learning environment were also assessed.

During the visits, officials interacted with School Management Committee members and parents to gather feedback about school functioning. Hostels attached to schools were also inspected, with their management and day-to-day arrangements coming under scrutiny.

According to the department, the inspections resulted in the identification of various irregularities and deficiencies. Based on the findings recorded in inspection reports, 30 school personnel were issued show-cause notices. Two Cluster Resource Persons were also served notices over alleged negligence in the discharge of their duties.

In three cases, the department ordered stoppage of salaries after serious misconduct was reportedly detected. Officials said further action would be determined after examining the explanations submitted by those concerned.

Alongside the disciplinary measures, the department also acknowledged schools that have demonstrated good practices. Three schools received appreciation certificates for maintaining satisfactory academic standards and taking steps to improve students’ learning outcomes.

Follow-up visits showed that several schools had made visible progress after earlier observations. Teachers were found adopting improved classroom practices, while some pre-primary units introduced innovative methods to make learning more interactive.

One school, for instance, brought grandparents into pre-primary classrooms to narrate stories and share personal experiences with children. The initiative helped connect classroom activities with real-life experiences and was appreciated by the department. Schools demonstrating similar innovation and improvement were issued appreciation letters.

The department said surprise inspections and follow-up monitoring would remain a regular feature of its academic supervision programme. The objective, officials said, is not only to identify shortcomings but also to encourage good practices and ensure better learning outcomes. Similar inspection drives are expected to be conducted in secondary and higher secondary schools in the coming days by the authorities concerned.
