Agartala, 8th September 2026 : Tension prevailed at the Siddhi Ashram area under Amtali Police Station on Tuesday afternoon after a group of aggrieved customers gathered outside the office of Village Micro Finance, alleging serious irregularities in the maintenance of their loan records.
The situation reportedly became tense when several customers confronted the branch manager, Soumen Chowdhury, seeking an immediate resolution to their grievances. Amtali Police Station was informed following the commotion, and a team of police personnel reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
According to the affected customers, they had availed loans from Village Financial Services and repaid their dues on time. They claimed that the company subsequently issued them clearance certificates confirming repayment. However, despite possessing the certificates, they are now allegedly receiving notices stating that their loans remain outstanding.
The customers said the alleged discrepancies have adversely affected their credit records. As a result, they claim they are being denied loans by banks and other financial institutions because their credit scores reportedly show unpaid liabilities.
Several customers alleged that they had been approaching the Siddhi Ashram branch for periods ranging from three months to nearly a year to have the matter corrected, but without success.
The customers’ anger intensified when the branch manager reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. Attempts were also allegedly made to contact Area Manager Bimal Nandi, a resident of Hapania. The customers claimed that Nandi disconnected calls from the branch manager and others and subsequently blocked their numbers, further raising suspicions among the complainants.
The affected customers told reporters that they suspect Nandi may have a role in the alleged financial irregularities. However, these remain allegations and would require verification through an official inquiry.
Amid the confrontation, the branch manager reportedly sought one month to resolve the matter. The customers have accepted the timeframe but warned that they would approach the appropriate legal authorities if their grievances are not addressed within the stipulated period.
