Agartala, 28th September 2026 : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday condemned the alleged brick-pelting incident involving former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s convoy in Bamutia on Sunday and said such incidents have no place in Tripura’s political culture.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Agartala, Dr Saha said he had immediately sought a report on the incident from the police. According to the police, Sarkar had been provided with double escort during his visit.
“I have looked into this matter. I immediately inquired, and the police department informed me that he was provided with a double escort for his visit,” Dr Saha said.
He further claimed that Sarkar himself had acknowledged the role of the police and appreciated their arrangements. The Chief Minister said he had gathered detailed information about the incident, while different accounts were circulating regarding the people involved in the gathering.
“Some say the crowd consisted of the ‘10,323’ group, while others suggest people had come regarding the Rose Valley issue,” he said.
Dr Saha, however, maintained that irrespective of the identity or purpose of those present, such behaviour should be avoided. “It is not desirable for things to happen this way; such conduct is not part of our culture,” he said, urging people to stay away from what he described as a culture that had developed during the previous 35 years.
Turning to the Village Committee elections in the TTAADC areas, the Chief Minister appealed to voters to come out and exercise their franchise without fear. The elections are being held after a gap of 10 years.
“The voting process is currently underway. To those who are delaying casting their votes: please step out of your homes, go to your respective polling stations, and cast your votes without any worry,” Dr Saha said.
He said he had spoken to the Director General of Police and had been assured that polling was proceeding peacefully across the state. According to the Chief Minister, elections should be conducted in a festive atmosphere.
Dr Saha also stressed that voters should make their own choice at the polling booth. “I am not saying you must vote for our party; vote for whomever you choose and wherever you deem appropriate. Voting is your duty, but it is also your right,” he said.
He added that the representatives elected through the process would have a significant role in determining the future development of their respective areas.
On the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Dr Saha said the programme had been launched in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public service on October 7. He said both the party and the government had undertaken various initiatives as part of the month-long campaign.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the participation of social organisations in the programme, saying their involvement had added a broader social dimension to the campaign.
“Since we have launched this ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, they too have taken the initiative to become an integral part of it. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to them, for this truly deserves appreciation,” Dr Saha said.
